Apartment Owner's Notes and Description
Via degli Zingari is located in Rione Monti, one of the oldest in town, it is very well connected: a few steps away is the stop metroB Cavour and Via Cavour, where numerous buses that stop toTermini Station and to the main points of tourist attraction. The Colosseum, Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venezia and the Mercati Traianei are within walking distance with a pleasant walk of just 10-15 minutes.
The Circo Massimo, the area of Largo Argentina, Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Farnese and the area of the Fontana di Trevi, Via del Tritone, Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo, they are also within walking distance walks with a little 'or longer, if you prefer, with public transportation such as the 117 from the nearby Via del Boschetto for Piazza del Popolo or other bus lines from Via Cavour to the Piazza Venezia and then continue on to Largo Argentina, Piazza Navona etc..
Rione Monti is now a lively downtown district, where you can still find the atmosphere of old Rome, and in the alleys and streets that cross it, and in workshops and laboratories that still remain (where carpenters work on sight, blacksmiths, ...) and which are promoted through numerous clubs, bars, wine bars, tasting places, Italian restaurants, but also Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican etc.. making day and night throughout the area particularly animated. Moreover, today, in the district there are trendy activity like restaurants, to clothing, furniture, design, in addition to numerous art galleries, among which we point out the Galleria Fondaco, at number 37 of Via degli Zingari - right out of the apartment a little further to the left - where you can find affordable art by emerging artists and logged, like Enrico Castellani pressoflessioni or the Cuori of Mojmir Jezek (www.fondaco.eu).
The apartment is very small and is facing the road, but was recently renovated just trying to exploit those aspects which, although they require a little 'spirit of adaptation, are characteristic of the neighborhood and make it particularly attractive to the apartment. The entrance, directly across the street, is also facing that gives light and air to the entire room, why, in addition to the enhanced ventialzione, was equipped with a window that opens independently of the window and door a system that tends to adjust introspection, air and light according to your preferences. The wall in sight, just entering on the right, in part dating back to Roman times, furnishing there are some pieces of Roman artist who exhibits in his gallery, the Studio Cusatelli at No. 99 Via Margutta, the famous street art galleries, artist works and pictures are exposed on the walls. The bedroom is located on a mezzanine floor where you must pay close attention to the stairs, which is essential to start with the right foot, and iron beams of the floor that if you are below a small stature, is likely to produce unpleasant bump.
We hope to have done necessary to give you a pleasant stay, we invite everyone to give us any else suggestions to improve more as much as possible.

Excellent location a few steps from the colosseo. Bed is comfortable. Kitchen adequately equiped for simple cooking. Be aware that people with reduced mobility/aged/overweight should avoid renting this appartment considering the winding/narrow stairs you have to climb leading to the bed. Very small warm water tank, so expect cold showers. Did not smell great, but it is quite common in Roma. So, overall, good appartment for the price, but be aware of these inconvenieces.

This apartment is small but will comfortably fit two people. It's located in a really nice area of Rome, close to the Colosseum as well as many cafes, restaurants and boutiques. It's also near the Metro which made it convenient to get around town.
The main issues we had with the place is that the shower in the bathroom collects water and you are standing in a pool of dirty water while bathing. There was also a very strong mildew stench, possibly from the shower, and it smelled like a sewer throughout the apartment. It was an awful smell that made us cringe whenever we walked inside. Lavinia recommended that we put a drain unclogger (Mr Muscle) down the shower drain to help with the backed up water and smell, but it did not help at all with either problem. The water faucet in the kitchen also spouted out water all over the counter while we washed dishes but that was easily wiped up. It just made us think there is a serious plumbing problem in the unit that needs to be addressed.
The other issue was the temperature difference inside this small apartment. The bedroom upstairs seemed to retain all of the warmth from the wall heater above the front door and the downstairs living area was drastically colder. It was unpleasantly cold downstairs and we would have to wrap ourselves with blankets just to sit at the table or relax on the couch.
If the plumbing, smell and temperature issues were resolved, this apartment would be a really lovely and enjoyable place to stay in Rome.

Apartment's owner Comments
Thanks for reporting, we apologize for the inconvenience of the bathroom and of the kitchen, which we thought had been resolved by a previous action. Immediately I'll send a plumber to check and take action because everything will be finally in place. As regards the heating of the environment unfortunately the hot air and the temperature of the intermediate floor can not be the same as the floor of the living room. No one has been discontent for it before and we did not think it could be so cold. We provide immediately to place an electric heater to heat quickly the environment below.

This apartment in the Rione Monti neighborhood which is at street level is in a great location. Five minute walk to the forum, ten minutes to the Colosseum or Santa Maria Maggiore a spectacular church, 15 minutes to the Termini and National Roman Museums called the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and the Baths of Diocletian, half an hour to the Spainish Steps or Piazza Navona/Campo di Fiori if you know the way to get there. One of the best gelaterias I have been to in my 9 visits to Rome is 30 meters from the apartment in a small piazza. Rione Monti is a vibrant neighborhood that has numerous bars, cafes, shops, restaurants, book stores that are all within 5-10 minute walk from the apartment. The Cavour metro stop is a one minute walk away and from there you can get to the beach within 45 minutes, to the ruin site of Ostia Antica within half an hour by connecting with the train at the Pyrmide metro stop or to the Vatican within 20 minutes after you connect with the redline metro at the Termini. You can also walk to the Vatican or Trastevere in less than an hour from the apartment if you know the way. For anyone interested in antiquity this apartment and neighborhood are more closely situated to the ruin sites and antiquity museums than the neighborhoods around Piazza Navona and Campo di Fiori, and unlike those neighborhoods which are not close to a metro stop Monti is not quite as overun by tourists.
I stayed in this apartment for 5 weeks (August 17-Sept. 21), took a language class at Ciao Italia Language School which was a 5 minute walk away and will stay at this apartment again when I come back to Rome. It is perfect for one or two people. The air conditioning was great and it was necessary to have it because Rome was sweltering the first two weeks I was there. The shower works well. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, plates and glasses so I was able to make meals when I chose to do so. The bed which is in the loft is firm and comfortable. There is a steel beam that runs through the center of the bed so when you cross from one side of the bed to where the clothes dresser is you have to watch your head as indicated in the description of the apartment. When I arrived in Rome it was deserted because people are on vacation. I did notice that after the first two or three weeks there tended to be some noise later at night because there is a bar directly across from the apartment. I thought the apartment was very comfortable and although it is small the ceiling is really high so it did not feel cramped to me. The artwork in the apartment was interesting. The apartment has alot of character. One of the walls dates back close to two thousand years old- it is cool. Lavinia the keyholder was very nice. One afternoon for some reason a fuse blew in the apartment, I called her and the owner Flora who was very nice was there within half an hour. She flipped a circuit breaker and it fixed the problem. She even offerred to have an electrician come out but I did not think that was necessary and there were no further problems with the electricity. There also were plenty of blankets if one happened to be staying here during the winter. I did alot of searching on the internet and on the Cities Reference web site to find this apartment. Paola and Rafaella at Cities Reference were wonderful and I received immediate responses to the numerous emails I sent them in the process of selecting this apartment. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to be in the heart of the ancient center. I give it 5 stars. It was everything I wanted.

Very nice apartment for 2 people. The bed was firm but comfortable and made the stay very enjoyable. The kitchen was nice and cozy with 2 gas burners and a nice fridge. Overall it was a great stay and the booking was very easy to complete. The only problem we ran into was the drain for the shower was very slow and often backed up so it was like standing in a pool of water by the end of your shower. I do not know if this is just the drainage system in rome that causes it, or if there is something clogging it. Besides that little issue, everything else was fantastic. Thank you again Roman Reference!

Thanks for your feedback, I'm sorry for the drain of the shower and I proceeded immediately to solve the problem. Glad that you have been fine. I'll be a pleasure to have you back if you will be back in our beautiful city!

The apartment was as described, basically clean and with all necessary equipment for a family of 4. A surprise was, that the apartment door really leads directly to the street. At nighttime, the front of the apartment is noisy for a while, as people leaving home from restaurants pick up their cars from in front of the apartment and say their not-so-quiet ciao's. The air conditioning is necessary in summer time and functions well.

I would say it is a very nice apartment in a great location & would recommend to anyone. But because of the mold in the bathroom I'll give it 3 stars.
