The apartment was perfect, Danielle was a friendly guest. She gave us the keys, instructions on the apartment. Everything was clean. The only problem is that the street is a little noisy, there is a Café on the street which is very popular in Rome.

We had wonderful days in Rome! Apartment on Via Leonina very comfortable:
1. comfortable bed
2. The well-equipped kitchen
3. well renovated
4. Located in the historic center, close to the Colosseum.
  • Disadvantages: no drying laundry.
I will recommend this apartment to my children and friends to stay in Rome.
Big thanks to Ida and Roman Reference!
Kind regards,
Tatiana&Konstantin.

I gave the apartment 3 stars based mostly on the location and the great rooftop terrace.  It was beautiful with a great view and a nice place to hangout in the warmer weather.  The kitchen was serviceable, but the washer was a little unreliable at times.  There is a nice big table downstairs and upstairs, but the one upstairs is only usable during the day because of the lack of lighting.  The couch in the TV room is comfortable, but there's no coffee table or side tables in the room.

I've stayed in various apartments in Rome over the last 15 years, so I've seen the good and the bad.  I'm not overly fussy about accommodations, but there is a minimum standard that anyone would like to see met and this apartment fell short on more than a few.

The first issue was lighting.  The place was poorly lit, except for the kitchen, mopre like a barroom than an apartment  It was ambiance lighting, not bright enough to function in.  I had to search for spare replacement bulbs for lights that were out and buy some bulbs that were brighter.  I even bought an extra lamp.  The bathroom was dimly lit.  There was a second light in there, but it didn't work, even with a new bulb.  Two of the lamps in the main room stopped working after a couple of days.  We made it better, lighting wise so we could function, but we shouldn't have had to.

Some of the outlets didn't work and others would go on and off with a jiggle of the plug.  The bathroom outlet was pushed into the wall and unusable, not to mention dangerous, being right next to the sink.  The result was you had no outlet to use in the bathroom.  There is no storage in the bath at all, either, just one small glass shelf over the sink for personal items.

There were plumbing issues with the tub drain stopping up.  Drain cleaner and a plunger from the hardware store fixed that problem.  Neither the kitchen nor the bathroom sink had aerators on the spouts.  If you turned the water on too fast in the bathroom, it sprayed all over you and your surroundings.  The hot water faucet in the kitchen sometimes stopped working, too.. The upstairs bathroom is tiny and practically unusable.  The toilet doesn't flush well as it has no tank, just a faucet to run water into the bowl.

There is cabinet space in the bedroom, but there are a lot of someone's items in some of them, the doors don't stay shut and they were a general pain to open and close.  The bedroom lighting was as bad as the rest of the apartment.  The bed was OK, not great, but OK.

Lack of space in the apartment was another issue.  Many Rome apartments are decorated with nick knacks and the like, but this one had so much stuff around there was no room for the items you brought and needed for your stay, almost no flat surface free for anything.  We moved a lot of the bric a brac, put some in cabinets and others in different places to free up some space for ourselves.  It wasn't very user friendly at all.  A couple of small tables would have helped in the bedroom and the TV room upstairs.  There was no place to put an alarm clock, a drink, a snack or anything.

Almost everything in the kitchen was dirty from the glassware to the dishes to the utensil containers left on the counter.  There are far too many pots and pans clogging up the kitchen cabinets and not nearly enough dishes.  We did find a cache of glasses in a storage area and cleaned a few.  The dishes were awful, though, not just dirty from a bad washing, but coated with some dark dust.  They were cracked and stained even after we cleaned them.  The kitchen and the bathroom are two rooms you expect to be clean when you rent an apartment.

Overall, the apartment is spacious enough when you discount all the clutter of collectibles or whatever you want to call the things the apartment is over run with.  It just took too much effort to make the place more livable for our two week stay.  The basic amenities were there, but not up to snuff, not clean and often not working.  An apartment should be ready for the renter and though there are always little things you have to do to make it comfortable for yourself, there was just too much to do with this apartment.  As I said in the beginning, we've rented 10 or 11 apartments in Rome and aren't overly fussy, but you expect the basics and they were just lacking here in more than a few respects.

Highly recommended!

We are a couple who value privacy and we were happy to discover that this apartment is very private even though it is located in the city centre. It is very close to Campo de Fiori which is one of Rome's attractions, a square famous for its wonderful market.

The apartment offers all the necessary facilities as well as a relaxing and, for us, romantic atmosphere. You'll find that the apartment is near most Roman attractions as well as some great cafes, restaurants and a fantastic wine bar "L'Angolo Divino' (The Antica Enoteca L'Angolo Divino wine bar is in the eighteenth century Palazzetto Giangiacomo, Via dei Balestrari n°12).

Enjoy your stay in Rome!

Had a wonderful stay in this apartment.  This was a great opportunity to live in a quiet Roman neighborhood.  Our host and hostess were extraordinarily gracious.   The accommodations were lovely and very well maintained.  By the end of the visit, we considered this our home.  We regretted having to depart.  Consider a longer stay.  Maybe move here and buy the place from them. I might!

Older folks may have trouble with the circular stairs.  Our party (aged 45, 45 & 15) had no difficulty, but we would have been less comfortable with parents in tow.

Recommendtions in the area from Pascale for meals etc proved to be excellent.

Perfect location to see Rome - on Via Giuila, near the Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Vatican.  Supermarket and very good coffee bar two blocks away. Massimo is a caring and concientious host. The apartment is beautiful and well equipped. There is a private roof to have drinks and watch the sunset (or rise). It is on the fourth floor, and there is no elevator, but the exercise is good for us.  This was our third stay and will not be our last.

We stayed in this modern style refurbished apartment for a week and it is perfect.
It has all that's needed and even more: washing machine, oven, dishwasher.
It's composed of a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom with a great shower.
Everything is new and tidy and the landlady was so nice.
The position is just 800m from the colosseo, from the central Piazza Venezia, just near the Quirinale (Italian President House).
Just 100m away there is a very nice convenience store for really good food and some good restaurants.

So, wonderful stay and location, highly recommended.

  MATARASSO-SUZENET / France
Bonjour depuis Paris.

The price was not transparent: hidden costs of "city tax" that were not mentioned anywhere.
a very low standard of appartment for what we paid: faulty boiler and shower with no hot water. Bad smell all over. Many other hazards (see: kitchen). Unwashed bed covers.
We survived but just. And we wouldn't send there our worst enemy. AVOID!!!! It doesn't deserve any stars, but the site wouldn't submit my review until I select that rating.

We stayed in this great apartment for two weeks in February 2015. The location is unbeatable: easy 10 minutes stroll to St Peters, the Vatican and Prati; 10 minutes to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and a not much further to Campo dei Fiori. Twenty minutes walk to the heart of Trastevere or the Spanish Steps shopping precinct. The views from the lounge and bedroom windows are beautiful: the Tiber River (Tevere), Castel Sant'Angelo and the Amadeo Savoia bridge are so close you could almost reach out and touch them. Sunsets were mesmerising. We walked everywhere and found this apartment a great base to get everywhere we wanted to go as well as being easy to locate in the labyrinth of Roman streets.

The apartment is big and clean with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of bench space for re-creating some amazing Italian dishes at home. Carrefour and PAM supermarkets are just over the bridge, as well as a mini mart with good basics, wine, fresh fruit and vegetables, virtually next door. With all the great little bistros, trattorias and pizzerias in walking distance in any direction, we felt spoiled for choice.

The apartment is on the fourth floor (fifth floor for Americans) and there are 88 steps up but we saw that as a huge plus. We only climbed up the stairs two or three times a day at most. It was good exercise, not stressful unless you have absolutely no stamina or a heart condition and allowed us to eat a little more pasta without gaining kilos. I also think that the stairs provide extra security. What thief is going to bother climbing 8 flights of stairs to rob you? None! The apartment has excellent security so it wasn't a concern anyway.

The apartment block is very quiet, we only heard the occasional muffled dog bark when the Jack Russell terrier below us heard us going down the stairs in the morning. As dog owners we found it rather sweet to hear his little alert. Rome is a noisy, active city. It would give NYC a run for its money. Despite the almost 24/7 activity we weren't disturbed by street noise and slept really well. I loved waking up to the sunlight through the big bedroom window but you could draw the shutters if you don't like any light in the bedroom.

The heating was very good, controlled by an easy to use thermostat that we could adjust to suit daily conditions. We were never cold and never felt stuffy or stifled by the heaters.

The wifi is spotty and sometimes slow, but that's a problem right across Rome, so I won't hold that against this apartment. We were still able to check email and upload photos so there was no inconvenience.

The rental price is good value for a lovely big, airy apartment in a prime location.

The only things that would make this apartment better are a big area rug for the spacious lounge/dining area to add warmth and define the space better, and cable TV for those who don't rely on the internet. We didn't need it but I think it would be a selling point for people who aren't internet savvy.

I would happily rent this apartment again.

Apartment's owner Comments
Thank you Stephanie, what a lovely feedback. Let me figure something about the rugh I agree.

Sorry about the internet, I'm surprised, fastweb is considered the best provider in Italy at the moment, I guess it's really that our standard is low, because I never noticed it wasn't fast enough.

We really hope to rent to you again!

My daughter (20) and I enjoyed an exciting and extremely comfortable stay at Via Giulia 125, despite some icy Roman winter weather. The apartment was every bit as attractive as the website photos, and it was easily the best equipped accommodation we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The appliances, for instance, such as the dishwasher and the washing machine, are up-to-date and easy to operate, and the kitchen has to be the most fully equipped I have ever encountered in a rented apartment. The lounge room was particularly beautiful and spacious with charming antique furniture, a large flat screen television and a generous supply of well-chosen books. Over and above all these comforts, the place almost made one feel Roman, with its individual decor and its ideal location in C16th Via Giulia. We were less than a 15 minute walk from St Peter's, less than 10 minutes from Campo dei Fiori, perhaps 15 minutes from the Piazza Navona, and close to amenities like a supermarket, bars and restaurants. But the miracle was that the apartment was so blissfully quiet, despite being convenient and central. It possibly helped that it is on the fourth floor of the building, 70 steps up from ground level. The stairs didn't bother us, by the way, especially since Massimo, the courteous and helpful owner, took our suitcases up when we arrived and down when we were about to leave. Perhaps the only regret we have is that we didn't make much use of the extensive terrace area, except for the clothesline. All in all, a terrific place to stay when in Rome.
